About this artwork
This oil painting was inspired by a sketch of Lake Placid during Christmas of 2019 and was later made into a larger painting, says artist Paula Martino. Painted solely with a palette knife, Paula uses a cool color palette limited to shades of blue, burnt umber, lavender, and a pale yellow cream that warms the sky. Towering pine trees laden with snow as with boundless mountains that stretch into the sunset. The sky is reflected above the frozen lake and silhouetted townhouses appear in the lower right corner. There is a hint of stairs leading down to the lake in the foreground taking the viewer to a dreamy lakeside winterland.
