About this artwork
Whiffen Spit is a 1.6-mile-long gravel bar in Sooke, British Columbia, about 40 miles west of Victoria on Vancouver Island. Located between Sooke Harbor and the Strait of Juan de Fuca, it is home to bald eagles and harbor seals and offers spectacular views of the Olympic Mountains. Artist Jakki Kouffman drew inspiration for this piece from a late afternoon visit when the sun hung low, the wind blew strong, and clouds skittered high above the jagged peaks of the Olympic Mountains to the south.
Jakki recommends framing the pastel artwork under glass for protection.
