About this artwork

Two 19th-century British naval figures stand side by side. In creating this piece, artist Nicholas Robertson drew inspiration from a Marine Festival at the Gloucester Docks, UK, in 2007, where participants dressed in various naval uniforms. He observed an awareness among the adolescent men playing as sailors and sought to capture the moment in paint.
