About this artwork

While cliff walking in Cornwall, artist Nicholas Robertson stopped for lunch at Dead Man's Cove, where a herring gull settled close by. Unlike other gulls that dive for food, the bird waited patiently for him to finish. Nicholas painted the patient creature over a burnt orange base, building layers of opaque pigment and color washes. This layered process adds texture and controlled vibrance to the composition.
