About this artwork

A nude Japanese woman reclines, with her face covered in white paint and her hair styled in an elaborate arrangement. She is an Oiran, a highly regarded courtesan. The painting explores the dichotomy between artificial and natural presence in her figure. Artist Nicholas Robertson recommends a 60mm frame for this painting to maintain balance and prevent warping.
