About this artwork

The impressionist portrait shows a young East Asian woman wearing a green-and-white plaid scarf. Artist Nicholas Robertson spotted her from the terrace of the National Gallery in London. While her eyes are fixed on the street performers in Trafalgar Square, her thoughts appear distant. In this artwork, Nicholas combines her modern look with elements reminiscent of Edo-period Japanese woodblock prints.
