About this artwork

A solitary man on a subway platform stands in a pool of light. He stares down the dark tunnel as if by sheer will he could summon the train. Others, he admits, tell him that looking will not make it come faster, but he insists it does. His method works, he says, because by watching for the first glint of headlight, he gets the jolt of satisfaction several seconds sooner than everyone else.
