Dry docked sailboats and masts fill the picture plane in this warm scene. This boatyard in Sarasota is a place of clutter and sun bleached surfaces and hulls, but always with the hope that one day these boats will regain their station in their classic fleets, says Fernando. He simplified the elements in the composition to focus on the engaging and complex lines, paired with the gentle morning light. Part of Fernando's signature series of nautical scenes capturing the watercraft, wildlife and landscape of his native Florida. He regularly travels, making sketches, taking notes and shooting photographs to later reference in his studio. The result is detailed, intimate paintings that radiate the stunning light and tropical breezes of the Sunshine State.
