About this artwork

Key West in the southernmost tip of the Florida Keys was once the mecca for shrimp and hundreds of shrimp trawlers who searched the Gulf of Mexico for this elusive and delicious little creature, explains Fernando. Here he captures the trawler Jenny Lynn at the end of a work day, bathed in cool blue light and gently reflected in the calm water of the harbor. Part of Fernando's signature series of nautical scenes capturing the watercraft, wildlife and landscape of his native Florida. He regularly travels, making sketches, taking notes and shooting photographs to later reference in his studio. The result is detailed, intimate paintings that radiate the stunning light and tropical breezes of the Sunshine State.
