About this artwork

Vintage images form the figure of a regal woman in this collage art. A golden leaf garland frames her face, while pearls decorate her shoulder. An eye fills the speech bubble beside her, adding to the surreal quality of the composition. In this mixed-media artwork, artist Darlene McElroy suggests that the pageantry of opera brings the richness of the past into the present, allowing one to live in another time for a moment.
