About this artwork

A portrait of 1930s Chinese cinema actress Hu Ping emerges from a dense field of wildflowers. The composition combines the two images to create a deliberate contrast between the smooth contours of the figure and the tactile texture of the petals. The title of the artwork references a 1934 film that marked one of Hu Ping's final screen appearances.
