About this artwork
Artist Hope Rambo presents a combination of reference images fused into a vivid composition. The painting features two Japanese matchbox illustrations, early 20th-century advertisements for Banania and Sogedrof Pharmacy, an outer space surrealist collage, and a woman whose face has traces of the images layered underneath her. Hope uses photo editing software to merge photographs. She gradually blends them into one multi-layered study and uses them as studies for her work.
