About this artwork

A culinary-themed still life by artist Dwight Smith rendered in the realist tradition. He paints a luscious red apple resting inside a large shell. Light falls from the right corner of the composition illuminating the scene, casting shadows to the left. "A clam's shell or pie shell crust are both naturally made," says Dwight. "Only one of them is softer and tastes better."
