About this artwork

A girl sits on her bed, happily watching her cat play with a red ball. Animals have always been a source of admiration and inspiration for artist Javier Ortas. Wildlife and pets alike star in many of his works. This piece is part of Javier’s ongoing series depicting people enjoying everyday activities. Painted entirely from imagination, he begins with a single sketch to determine the composition and works out most of the colors before starting the final drawing. The full paper measures 13.77 by 19.68 inches, with the painted area approximately 10.23 by 15.74 inches. In pencil, the lower right corner of the painted area includes the title in Spanish, Lago. Chica con gato, the signature, and the year (20). The piece is also signed on the back.
