About this artwork

I began this painting on location in plein air, positioning my easel on a path along a hillside that overlooks the out-buildings of a working farm, The farm is nestled in the rolling hills of the area where I live. I was intrigued by the shapes of the rooftops, along with the dark shadows that defined them. When the watercolor was mostly done, I applied a wash of gesso to some areas to unify the background, and am pleased with the way the painting conveys the charm of the place.
