About this artwork

A surrealist figurative painting depicts a woman whose dress transforms into a red-and-white striped tent. A bunny's head replaces her own. Two hot air balloons and tiny rabbit acrobats fill the scene. Part of artist Kat Silver's series of circus-themed paintings, the artwork explores female empowerment and the pressure women face to conceal their authentic selves in the service of others. It invites the viewer to reflect on how girls are often groomed to remain quiet, while boys are taught to be outspoken and lead. Modern women often juggle motherhood, work, and personal life while suppressing themselves to meet societal expectations. In the scene, the woman hides the chaos under her dress.
