About this artwork

Traditional painting in the style of the 19th Century Luminism school. Late afternoon sun glows yellow through the cloudy atmosphere and is reflected in the estuary below. Thin horizontal land masses recede into the distance and the grassy foreground field is obscured by shadow at the very front. At the horizon a dark cool blue sky contrasts with the gleam on the water. Higher up the sky is lighter and warmer. The overall mood is of a serene calm as the world settles down for the night.
