The Two Mile Walk
About this artwork
This is a painting of a Mozambiquian woman who walks miles to fetch water for her family, says artist Paula Martino. She carries water in a white basin in front of her and balances a large barrel of water on her head as she leaves the water source. The scene is alive with saturated colors of landscaped greens and complementing hues of orange and pink from the figure's clothing and the paved soil path. Rendered on a wrapped canvas, this piece was painted around the sides in a combination of brush and palette knife work. It results in a captivating impressionist piece with vivid color and a touch of thick impasto.
