About this artwork

Part of artist Onelio Marrero's ongoing series of explorations of light on the New Jersey Shore, this painting captures a lone pleasure boat skimming beyond the breaking waves as it travels north. Bold brushstrokes and subtle colors convey the movement of the surf while reflecting the changing light across the water. Onelio pays particular attention to the interplay of sunlight and reflection, capturing the fleeting qualities of light on the rolling waves.
