About this artwork

Inspired by his travels in Alaska, artist Onelio Marrero captures a striking sunset over Yakutat Bay as he sailed north toward Hubbard Glacier. The long summer evenings of Alaska's northern latitudes bathe the landscape in lingering light, filling the sky with vibrant color. Icebergs and floating ice drift through the bay, reflecting the changing hues of the sunset. Through expressive brushwork and a luminous palette, Onelio conveys the grandeur of this unforgettable coastal vista.
