Little Island Tulips at Sunset
About this artwork
This is a view of the underside of Little Island, an artificial park designed by Thomas Heatherwick off the West Side of Manhattan, shares artist Nick Savides. I was particularly interested in the light and shade, the neutral tones and subtle blues, oranges, and greens in the water, and the tulips, which look like high heels from this angle. The park sits over the Hudson River on top of 132 uniquely-shaped concrete columns. The view is looking west, with the setting sun behind the structure and Jersey City on the horizon.
