Critics and Jurors
About this artwork
Artist Onelio Marrero shows three people observing a grand ornate painting in a museum. The mostly fictitious scene displays his professional experiences of watching in anticipation as collectors, critics, and art jurors move from one painting to the next, taking and comparing notes. He conveys what it is like for an artist to stand at a slight distance trying to read these professionals' body language and gestures. The figures and the interior are loosely rendered to balance the nearly abstract central painting they are considering, says Onelio.
