About this artwork

Red chiles are a great source of pride in New Mexico. In this still life, artist Duane Brown depicts the peppers as the Sandia Mountains, a range east of Albuquerque that protects the city from eastern winds and the mountain Duane sees from his studio every day. The white highlights suggest gloss while the warm reds contrast with the muted background.
