About this artwork
This bird was painted as a part of a series after a huge catastrophic freeze in Texas, shares artist Scott Dykema. He depicts a thoughtful portrait of a bluejay perched on a golden slate melting under candles. The power grid almost shut down. Many went without power for days during the coldest days in Texas history. However, even though many were inside trying to survive, the animals outside were doing the same. The days after the freeze were filled with so much gratitude and appreciation. Seeing the birds alive was just mind-blowing icing on the cake.
