Red String 3
About this artwork
Artist Tomo Mori calls this technique canvas mosaic which she developed over many years. The square shapes are cut and painted pieces of canvas fabric that are adhered to the stretched canvas. Initially inspired by digital pixels, but harkens back to traditional mosaic making. In Japan, we use red string as a metaphoric expression of a connection by fate, like someone you are meant to be with, says Tomo. I always love the image of it and used the theme for my painting. It's an abstract work that can be perceived in many different ways, so I don't want to limit the viewer's imagination by explaining too much of what's in the image.
