About this artwork
Brit says her inspiration for this piece was the William Faulkner quote, You cannot swim for new horizons until you have the courage to loose sight of the shore. In this modernist landscape, Brit layered mountains and bodies of water in multiple planes, intersected with tonal abstraction. The visual landscape becomes a vessel that holds memories and longing, as the focus turns to the connection between the subject and the viewer, she says. The highly textured surface and low relief effects are created by a combination of embossed papers and layering of acrylic paint.
