About this artwork

Artist Darlene McElroy creates a contemporary portrait of a cowboy with a serious look on his face. She collages a colorful mix of paper and dried paint layers to comprise parts of his attire. You may think of cowboys as rough and tumble tough guys, but they are emotionally attached to their horse, cows, and dog, says Darlene. The subject will shed a tear and feel blue if one of them gets lost or hurt.
