Of Rocks and Colors - Galaxy
About this artwork
Artist Marie-Eve Champagne presents an enigmatic contrast between the sharp, crisp mineral and its translucent hues, full of softness and wonder. The series takes root in a profound love of minerals and their relationship to pigments, colors, and, ultimately, painting. After all, once transformed into a paste, colors are just a bunch of crushed rocks on a surface, says Marie-Eve. One can almost think they are looking into the heart of a galaxy. She bases the piece on a photo of a quartz mineral from LA's Natural History Museum.
