About this artwork

Artist Allen Wittert turns a crowded summer shoreline into a study of collective leisure. The composition recedes from a tightly cropped foreground to a hazy Atlantic horizon, drawing the viewer through layers of bathers, paddle players, and striped umbrellas that dissolve into gestural marks as the distance grows. Broad strokes of burnt sienna, magenta, and violet define the figures, while turquoise and cobalt create a rhythm from the surf across the umbrellas back to the crowd.
