About this artwork

Painted from a photographic reference, artist Joanie Ford rendered this painting with contrasting soft tones. I wanted to represent the beauty of the falls with pastel colors and deep purples, explains Joanie. I built up the layers of pastel slowly, saving the brightest accent colors for details such as the icicles and the highlights on the foreground snow mounds.
