About this artwork

Two figures sit around a fire and feed its flame. Ornamental elements surround them, creating a visual rhythm. The composition blends recognizable figures and abstract forms to suggest ritual as an open, temporary condition. Artist Rodion Gilmitdinov used gestural mark-making and a combination of oil paint, acrylic paint, and oil pastel to create this piece.
