About this artwork

A meditation on codependence and breaking free from what holds us back, Strange Birds depicts two winged figures, locked in an impasse that prevents them from flying. One is ready to take flight, having attached himself to his wingless companion in a hapless attempt at helpfulness. But she pulls away, clutching her own set of wings in her hands. She wants to take to the skies, but she knows she needs to do it without him. Her wings may be small, but she wants to try to fly herself.
