About this artwork

A cool sense of calm prevails amongst the stark red twigs of dogwood on an overcast winter's day, says artist Valerie Berkely. Vivid red twigs emerge from the soft snow. Valerie used a distinct process of applying texture onto her canvas and then applied a red tone throughout. Scraping through wet oil paint revealed the stark red color of the twigs beneath gentle cool hues.
