About this artwork

This structure has stood on the lakefront walk since the 1920s. Although a sign advertising cold drinks, ice cream, and cigars has long disappeared, the stand remains a remembrance of simpler times. Despite the tumultuous and frightening world in which its products were once sold, it now serves as a nostalgic reminder of the past. The composition, with its study of blues, browns, and greens, contrasts the nostalgia it evokes.
