About this artwork
One of the wonders I enjoy most about New York City is the way early morning light cuts through the deep canyons of its streets. In this case the light was cutting across Madison Avenue at the start of the day. The light reflected on the pedestrians and lengthened the shadows. I loved the way it made high contrast patterns on the shop windows on the right while the tones on the oncoming traffic had a subtle array of tints and shades of blue.
