About this artwork

A warm sky contrasts with a sea of deep blue with the hot outlined silhouettes of bathers in the surf. Jamal chose a primary palette to add drama to this oil painting of a languid afternoon on a tropical beach. Thin layers of translucent oil paint were applied using a fast drying alkyd medium. Light passes through each layer until it reaches the white of the paper where it's reflected back at the viewer- much the same way light passes through water. Only the blue ocean is rendered opaque.
