About this artwork
My first attempt at a botanical painting, this piece is inspired by the mythology of the flower Lily of the Valley, which is said to symbolize a return to happiness. Looking to recreate the aesthetic of traditional watercolor botanical paintings, I used an inversion of the fat-over-lean method, thinning the paint with linseed oil to create lightness. This piece is wired for hanging and has gallery-wrapped edges.
