About this artwork

In this painting I tried to capture the essence and the light of the grand staircase of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. The subtle colors of the limestone were particularly engrossing to me. When I visit the Met, I usually take the steps of the grand staircase two at a time since the risers are low and my desire to view the art is so high. Descending the staircase after hours of examining art is another matter for me. I usually descend as slowly as possible wondering if I should head back in. During my visit, I am inspired and perplexed at the same time. The slow descent, usually affords me a breathtaking view of the light entering through the front doors and the people milling about. The painting is varnished and wired for hanging. The edges are a clean white gesso.
