About this artwork
South of Ogdensburg, New York is a Amish farming area located around Heuvelton. One of the more conservative Amish communities, few have electricity or use any manner of motorized farming. Barn paintings are common however. Barn paintings are Common in Pennsylvania, but few traditional barn paintings in this area. Here the Amish don't use Hex signs but rather stars. Different colors have different meanings. A brown star represents the earth, nature and friendship.
