About this artwork

This piece has an irregular, rectangular format where the top and bottom edges are tensioned. They are intentionally bowed outwards. The ragged, torn fabric adds an additional sense of something raw, spontaneous, organic, natural. David explains that the working process here embraces many aspects found in the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi – irregularity, roughness, simplicity. One of a series where the letterforms literally provide the structure for the piece.
