About this artwork
Artist James Hartman shows a charming still life set indoors. A bouquet of pastel flowers in a blue vase takes center stage as oranges, paintbrushes, and a green pot of yellow blooms sprawl on the table. I enjoyed creating this work that is part of a series of combinations of everyday objects as compositional elements, shares James. He paints over a collage of antique ephemera, retaining portions in the final output to shine through. Inspired by a friend's birthday party where everyone was given potted plants, he incorporates the Alstroemeria, also called Peruvian Lilies, into the timeless composition.
