About this artwork

Inspired by light coming through the trees on a trail in Saratoga, Ca. I built a cradled panel to hold the beeswax. I use molten beeswax and damar crystals mixed with fine oils to achieve the effect. I like the way the melting adds to the natural formation of the branches. The depth of the wax gives a stained glass look to this painting. Since encaustic painting was once a lost art I have invented my own technique. Edges are black and a strong cable is attached.
