About this artwork

When we visited James he was in in the final stages of finishing this work. He had created a cradled panel to attach a collage of 1906 Harpers Bazaar pages. This was then covered with molten beeswax. This preparation is the ground for painting done in oils and fused into the wax with a blowtorch. Encaustic painting was once a lost art. Contemporary artists have had to create their own recipes to mimic ancient examples from Egypt explained James.
