About this artwork

This composition was inspired by a still from a classic movie, but the approach hearkens back to the abstract expressionists. Rather than concentrate on representative detail, in this work every element, including the figures, is merely a shape to be filled with color. These shapes then compete or coexist with the other shapes and the work as a whole. I filled some of the flat areas of color with linear patterns to add some richness. The sides are painted brown, and it comes ready to hang.
