About this artwork
Unusual among my mostly studio work, this piece was done plein air. Rock Run is a small freshwater stream; the section shown is located within Susquehanna State Park in Darlington, Maryland. In this woodland setting, the water reflects not sky but branches, rocks, and the overhanging canopy of many varieties of trees. The result is a work in which the stream itself isn't that evident, but the colors and paint handling overall attempt to convey that dappling effect of light and color that exists in a forest environment. The sides of the work are painted brown, and it comes ready to hang.
