About this artwork

Artist Robert Hofherr exhibits an expressionist aspect of wild and overgrown woodlands. Inspired by Matisse's landscapes, this view of a Massachusetts woodland transforms using Fauvist color and high-energy paint application. The mostly teal underpainting emerges from the background and becomes part of the composition. Robert's use of cadmium red in many areas livens things up and creates visual tension with the cool base colors.
