About this artwork

Artist Robert Hofherr paints a line of sailboats in a Massachusetts harbor with an expressionist approach. He transforms the entire display with Fauvist techniques and takes influence from Jason Berger. The use of bold color, energetic paint application, and simplified rendering creates an exciting visual statement, says Robert. Compositionally, the strong foreground diagonals funnel the eye towards the far left, where more boats and buildings are merely suggested.
