About this artwork
It was a beautiful autumn sunset and the gondolas are at rest after a long day of navigating the canals, shares artist Zelie Alice. Taking inspiration from the view and the vibrant colors of the sky, Alice quickly captured the scene in an immediate sketch. She then began the process of painting with an orange-red underpainting. Finally layering thick paint which allows warmth to glow through with movement. I wanted to share the story of my day.
