Tito Rossini
FORMIA, Italy
Artist Tito Rossini paints landscapes, still lifes, and domestic interiors through contemplative and metaphysical imagery. Influenced by the 20th-century Italian figurative tradition, his works explore the peaceful and spiritual dimensions hidden within everyday life. "Each work carries an experience or an open question that guides its interpretation, opening a broader and more conscious path for inner exploration," shares Tito. His artistic career began in the late 1980s during the revival of Mannerist-inspired image painting in Italy. Time spent in artists' studios and exhibitions provided opportunities in major contemporary art events and allowed him to fully dedicate himself to painting. After years of working in a basement, a mezzanine in his father's tailor shop, or a family studio apartment, he now creates art in his own home, overlooking the gulf in Formia, Italy, surrounded by trees and the sound of birdsong. When not making art, Tito teaches in a public school.
Artist Statement
I paint as a way of investigating the quiet mystery hidden within everyday life. Through the silence of a deserted square, the dim light of a room, or the lingering glow across a tablecloth, I search for moments where reality seems to shift into something more intimate and spiritual. Ordinary spaces and objects become sources of reflection and revelation, opening toward what I think of as transcendental realities.
My compositions are grounded in balance and simplicity, shaped by the great Italian figurative tradition of the twentieth century, particularly artists such as Casorati, Carrà , Morandi, and Oppi. Light holds a central role in my work. Suspended in time, it permeates spaces and objects, creating an atmosphere that feels both calm and quietly metaphysical. Within this apparent naturalism, I seek subtle symbolism through small gestures and details, allowing the familiar to suggest something beyond itself.
Working primarily in oil on canvas or panel, I intentionally remove unnecessary complexity and the presence of the human figure, focusing instead on stillness, essential forms, and contemplation. Giorgio Morandi wrote that "anything can be painted, you just have to see it," an idea that continues to guide my practice. I believe painting can encourage a deeper way of looking, where the sacred and mysterious emerge naturally from daily life. Through my work, I offer a space of quiet reflection, where initial tension dissolves into clarity and calm.
