For me, a painting begins by seeing something in a particular light; it’s the light that almost always draws my interest. Then, painting becomes this exciting exercise of bending reality while trying to maintain the truth of the scene. I paint in layers, with multiple passes.

I’m probably slower than most painters, but I get to enjoy this build-up of paint that hopefully results in something that connects me to the viewer.
